The court is located in the historic Hall of Records building in the Civic Center of Lower Manhattan, near City Hall and the county courthouses.

Hours

Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

The court is closed on weekends, federal holidays, and New York State holidays.

Arrive early. The court can be very busy, especially in the morning. If you need to file documents or speak with a clerk, arrive before 10:00 AM to avoid the longest lines.

When calling, have your file number ready if you have one. Clerks can answer general questions about procedures and forms, but they cannot provide legal advice.

How to Get There

By Subway

  • 1 / 2 / 3 to Chambers St — exit and walk east one block to the Hall of Records.
  • A / C / E to Chambers St / World Trade Center — exit and walk east on Chambers Street.
  • N / R / W to City Hall — exit and walk north one block.
  • 4 / 5 / 6 / J / Z to Brooklyn Bridge – City Hall — exit and walk west on Chambers Street.

By Bus

Bus routes M9, M20, and M22 stop near the Civic Center on Chambers Street.

By Car

There is no court parking. Parking in Lower Manhattan is limited and expensive. Public transportation is recommended. If you must drive, there are commercial garages on Chambers Street and Worth Street.

What to Bring to Court

  • Photo ID (driver's license, passport)
  • Your file number (if you have one)
  • All relevant original documents
  • Copies of any documents you need to file
  • A certified check or money order for court fees (they do not accept cash for all transactions)

Tips for Your Visit

  • Security: You will need to go through a security checkpoint when entering the building. Leave any prohibited items at home.
  • Patience: The court handles a high volume of cases. Expect wait times, especially if you do not have a scheduled appointment.
  • Forms: Bring your forms already filled out if possible. Forms are available in our forms directory.
  • Extra copies: Always bring at least one extra copy of everything you file. The court will retain originals in many cases.
